I am thrilled to announce that Dr. Katie Novak and I teamed up to publish a 2nd book exploring the synergy among Universal Structure for Studying and blended studying! In this 2nd e book, The Shift to Pupil-led: Reimagining Classroom Workflows with UDL and Blended Understanding, Katie and I wanted to execute two aims. Initial, we want lecturers to rediscover their pleasure and reengage in this profession. Second, we want learners to establish into skilled learners capable of sharing ownership of finding out so academics are not performing the lion’s share of the get the job done.

The previous couple of yrs have remaining many lecturers exhausted, disappointed, and disillusioned with this occupation. They are drowning in perform and unrealistic needs. The status quo is not serving them or their learners. They have to have concrete approaches and assets they can use to reimagine their technique to this operate so that it is sustainable and worthwhile.

Students also have to have to study how to engage in the mastering process entirely. In a lot of classrooms, learners are continue to occupying the role of silent observer and customer. They are not challenged to establish their metacognitive muscle mass, evaluate their perform, provide each individual other with substantive comments, and connect their development with the individuals in their life. That translates into learners who are not invested in their mastering. Discovering is one thing that is happening to them. They are much like fans sitting down in the stands watching a video game unfold on the industry. Alternatively, students need to be energetic, engaged contributors in the mastering method. This is the only way to cultivate professional learners who are resourceful, strategic, motivated, and self-mindful. The far more college students actively engage in all sections of the discovering course of action, the much less force there is on the instructor to do all the perform.

This e book identifies 10 time-consuming, trainer-led, and frustratingly ineffective workflows and reimagines them working with Common Layout for Finding out (UDL) and blended understanding. The goal of each individual workflow change is to situation the university student as an active agent and blossoming professional learner to make these workflows more sustainable and efficient! We want teachers to check out learners as companions in studying and arm them with the strategies and capabilities needed to share the responsibility for mastering with us.

This e book is jam-packed with certain procedures, templates, and methods academics can use to take what they are learning and implement these shifts straight away! We involve “reflect or discuss” queries and application routines at the conclusion of each chapter, earning it the fantastic go through for a single instructor or a great ebook study textual content for a team of instructors!
